Seinfeld
Seinfeld is the famous show about nothing which is not really about nothing but very much about the humour that can be extracted from the banality of life in a big city, in this case, New York, but it could equally be elsewhere.
It's based on the stand up routines of co-creator Jerry Seinfeld which were a laser-focused evisceration of real life in the 1990s, but other than the lack of mobile phones, it still stands up today.
The show is also known for its 'no hugging no learning' mantra, that at the end of every episode, the morally questionable characters don't learn any lessons and don't become better people, and to be honest, it's probably how most of us actually behave.
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia kind of feels like Seinfeld for the new generation. In fact, in one episode they do a scene with the Always Sunny gang dressed up and acting as the characters from Seinfeld.
These guys are also morally bankrupt people, probably worse than those in Seinfeld.
The premise is based around on Irish pub and the truly ridiculous situations the gang cook up often of their own volition, from having their tax dodging cola drink becoming the official drink of the terrorist organisation Boko Haram, to having another drink in the Frank's Fluids stable, Fight Milk, becoming the official drink of the UFC due to its weight cutting properties. Plus one of the best in universe musical scores ever created, The Nightman Cometh.
Family Guy
What The Simpsons could never be - actually subversive, irreverent, boundary pushing, eye wateringly funny.
It's also a love story, between a family's dog and their baby, a genius hell bent on world domination, or maybe just wanting to learn the ways of the universe as all children should.
It's famous for its 'cutaways' which enable it to drop in social commentaries and some of the best jokes on television.
